Session Nine Newsletter 2024

What a great week for camp! Although it was a bit chilly for summer time weather, the rain helped cool off the humidity and heat. Campers enjoyed some rainy day activities along with lake time the rest of the week. It was the best of both worlds with sunny days and cool weather.

Tie-dye! Campers love creating new tie-dyes each week they come. This is a craft the get to explore and be independent in. Casey, Sam and Lauren help tie the shirts into a pattern and put rubber bands around it and the campers choose the colors and put the dye on themselves. It can get messy.

Campers learn how to horse back ride on tuesday, thursday and fridays. All of our horses are retired and only do small rides. They are so gentle and sweet to all of the campers. Campers have the choice of riding by themselves, having a counselor lead the horse, or a counselor walking next to them. They learn to make the horse go forward, turn and stop.

Here is one of the rainy day activities the campers completed. They made pine cone succulents. Campers painted a design on their pots and assistant director Lauren helped spray paint the pine cones. They turned out pretty cool!

Melty beads/ iron on beads is always a go to activity. The campers enjoy creating all different types of animals and shapes. Some campers will follow a pattern or make their creation with muli-colored beads.

Heidi helped campers make yarn hearts! The campers hammered in the nails to a piece of wood and wrapped yarn around to create a heart. Such a fun way to make crafts!

Nature Sallie went on a little scanvanger hike with the campers. They found some slugs and used their bonoculars to see some birds way up in the trees.

We've had some hummingbirds visit the farm and Nature Sallie helped a few campers get up close to see them. They wore red bandanas and a ring flower with sugar water to help attract the hummingbirds.

On Olympic day, the ducks had a race! Campers caught some of our baby ducks and they raced across the kiddy pool to the food.

Down at Prince Lake, we caught some fish! Campers had a very successful fishing trip.

This week we would like to thank three of our counselors for their hard work throughout the summer! We appreciate you! Aria (left) CIT, Mia (middle) assistant counselor, Maggie (right) head counselor. Thank you for being with us this summer, the campers love you!
